Brunette woman magnifies her teeth with a magnifying glass against a blue wall

Being in the world of dentistry, we love learning about all things teeth-related. And while we know that not everyone shares our enthusiasm for dental trivia, there are so many fascinating facts out there that hearing some may just change your mind. That’s why we’ve compiled some of our favorite fun facts about teeth. Maybe these will shake up what you thought you knew about your smile, or maybe one of them will become your new go-to fun fact at parties! So read on to learn fun teeth facts:

  1. Enamel Is Tough
  2. You may know that diamonds are one of the hardest materials on Earth, but the toughest material when it comes to your body is your enamel. Enamel is the highly mineralized, protective outer surface of your teeth; and yes, it’s even harder than your bone. Remember to take care of it though because once you lose it, it doesn’t grow back!

  3. Unique Like a Fingerprint
  4. Your teeth are totally unique. No two people have identical teeth, not even identical twins! Since your teeth are associated with you and you alone, they can be used to identify you just like fingerprints. It may be a bit grim to think about but that’s why dental records are often used to match identities with dead bodies.

  5. Dental Care Is Ancient
  6. When you’re using your fancy electric toothbrush, it can be easy to think that dental care is a modern practice, but that’s far from the truth. Humans have been taking care of their teeth since ancient times. For example, beeswax was shown to have been used as a dental filling 6,500 years ago, recipes to treat toothaches have been found in ancient Egyptian texts, and even Aristotle wrote about dentistry.
