When it comes to your oral health, the best defense is a good offense. In other words, focusing on preventive care can reduce or eliminate your risk for many common dental ailments. One key way to protect your pearly whites is to practice a routine of brushing and flossing at home. The other? Get regular dental checkups with Dr. Laird and our team.

How Often Should I Get Dental Checkups?

In general, we recommend that our patients come see us every six months or so. If something comes up between your regular checkups, we’re always happy to see you and address your concerns. For patients with unique dental needs, Dr. Laird may recommend more frequent checkups.

How Do Dental Checkups Benefit My Health?

The purpose of regular dental checkups is to monitor your oral health and address any potential problems before they develop into serious issues. Take gum disease: with early detection, it can often be treated and even reversed. Without treatment, gum disease can cause severe consequences like tooth and bone loss.

Dental Checkups & Oral Cancer Detection

Each time our team performs a dental checkup, they are also screening you for signs of oral cancer. Oral cancer is relatively rare, but needs to be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. You may not recognize the signs that indicate oral cancer is developing, but your dentist will.

Dental Checkups & Cavity Prevention

Even our patients with the best brushing and flossing habits at home still need professional assistance removing plaque and tartar. Those pesky substances love to hide in the hard-to-reach areas of your mouth. However, our dental professionals are highly skilled at spotting and removing tartar and plaque before it causes cavities, gum disease, and other issues.

With regular dental checkups, you can protect your oral health for years to come. To ask our team any questions or to schedule your next appointment, call us today!
